About the Couple:
When asked about the vibe they were going for for their day and wedding photography, Allison & Steven said
We really want an elegant, traditional atmosphere for our wedding. We love the gardens at Glen Magna Farms, so lots of photos in the gardens is a must. The grounds have a lot of different options so we’d like to make the most of it and get a good variety!
When they thought about looking back on their wedding photos, they were most excited about portraits of the two of them and moments with family and friends.
About the Day:
Allison & Steven wanted to make sure they had lots of photos with their loved ones. It truly was a family affair, with most of their wedding party were also their siblings, nieces and nephews.
It’s important to us to get a lot of photos of our wedding party and family. I can’t wait to see the ceremony photos afterwards too! There’s also a nice staircase inside, we think it would be pretty to get some more artistic photos of Allison going down the staircase. Some golden hour photos towards the end of cocktail hour. Photos of the sparkler sendoff are a priority for us at the end of the night with everyone gathered around!
Fortunately, Glen Magma Farms has a lovely bridal suite, and rooms where everyone can be getting ready at the venue.
My Faves:
I have so many favorites from this wedding! I was really eager to do these night photos, so I was super excited when Allison & Steven agreed to give me a few minutes away from their guests during the reception when I explained my idea. We had to get the lighting behind them just right so that it caught all the leaves around them as well as creating a backlight on them. We had taken the time to set up these angles before we went and got the couple, so they only took about 7 minutes to get! I love the contrast and the delicacy of the leaves as the light hits them and comes through them.
I can’t resist talking about some of the golden hour photos too – in contrast to the night photos, these completely rely on getting the timing on the natural lighting JUST right, so that the sun is low in the sky but not blocked by the trees. Depending on the venue, its geographic constraints, and clouds, it can be a very short window to catch golden hour lighting! Golden “Hour” (sometimes only minutes!!) waits for no one, so there was no dilly-dallying to get these shots. Fortunately Allison & Steven trusted us to know when to grab them for a few photos, so we got the perfect shots for them.
