Rachel & Evan – Elm Bank Garden Wedding in Wellesley, MA
About Elm Bank:
Elm Bank Horticultural Society is located in Wellesley, MA. Set far back from the road and surrounded by woods are the elegant gardens that feel like an estate. Each garden has its own personality, and they are all beautiful in different ways throughout the year. This garden wedding took place in the early fall, with many of the flowers and trees still displaying their richest colors. Rachel & Evan had their ceremony outdoors in the Italianate Garden.
About the Couple:
When asked about the vibe they were going for for their day and wedding photography, Rachel & Evan said
Our guiding descriptors are: fun, intimate, and beautiful. We are excited to be getting married in a garden (beautiful, check!), and we hope that our ceremony and reception will bring some of the fun and intimacy. We want people to meet and celebrate and laugh, and we hope that our guests have small moments in line at the bar or walking through the gardens to connect and have a little slice of peace.
When they thought about looking back on their wedding photos, they were most excited about candid captured moments of joy from their guests.
It would be such a pleasure to get to see photos of the moments we don’t usually get to see as bride and groom. The shared laugh between grandmother and grandson, the warm embrace of college friends who haven’t seen each other in years, the quiet conversation between the best man and the mother of the groom. We were so drawn to your portfolio because of the candids and how well you capture the joy of a wedding. As we’ve written above, our greatest hope with this wedding is that our loved ones come together and have a brief communal moment.
About the Day:
My favorite photos from this garden wedding are these the entrance of the Bressingham gardens. I love the wide shots that show the grandeur of the gardens, the calm happiness that was palpable between Rachel and Evan as they anticipated the ceremony, and the subtle halo of backlight on them from the cloudy sky above.
These photos are great example of how all kinds of weather affect how we approach photos. A composition like this in full sun would have high contrast shadows, and might need the addition of some off camera lighting to make it work!
